Planning for the Future
By now I’ve built an agency of almost 60 players, ranging from the low 40s to the low 70s. Keeping those players developing is becoming increasingly difficult, because regular minutes are essential – especially for those on the verge of first-team football.
Rather than relying on loans, I wanted as much control over their development as possible. That’s why I purchased Academia del Mayhem, a Spark division club in Argentina. Using the same tactical system as Madero Mayhem FC, it gives younger players competitive football, consistent minutes and a clear pathway into the first team.
Introducing The Academy
Just after the mid-season break I purchased a club also in the Spark division, based in San Miguel de Tucuan, Argentina.
Acadamia del Mayhem.

This will give the opportunity for players rated from the early to mid 60s (and possibly a little scope either side of those) to work together, in the same squad, using the same formation as Madero Mayhem FC in a much more competitive environment than if I’d bought a team in Flint.
The plan is for them to be relatively close in overall ratings, which along with a small squad and decent level of opposition, should tick all the boxes for the “progression golden zone“.
With them playing the same system, it’ll allow me to see who’s good enough to make the step up to The Mayhem based on performance as well as attributes.
Hopefully this will mirror the Red Bull setup and be as successful at developing players to make the next step up! Just like Red Bull, we won’t just be stockpiling players in the hope one sees massive progression and can be sold for a profit. Each is recruited with a player profile in mind which fits The Mayhem DNA.
Maximising Playing Time
In my first two seasons I probably rotated too much. Nobody benefited. Not the team and not the players’ progression.
This season I’ll instead rely on experienced players and loan signings as backups, allowing my own developing players to play the vast majority of minutes.
Maximum gametime
Competitive division
Close OVR groupings
Maximum opportunities for progression.

Madero Mayhem Squad Preview & Transfer Roundup
My recruitment for Season 15 actually started just after Season 14 had kicked off.
The Goalkeepers
Whilst Mark Wells was steady last season, I was never fully comfortable with him between the sticks, so he’ll become backup to new signing Gaspar Takacs.
Gaspar joins for $16 from the Stone division, where he made only 6 starts. He’s 27 but was minted as a 26 year old so I’m hoping some regular game time, at a competitive level, can see him progress quickly.

The Defenders
After conceding only 15 goals last season, I wanted to keep as much continuity in defence as possible. Vlasak, Janssen and Vollmer all retain their places, while Didier Cambier moves into midfield.
To replace Cambier, I picked up Australian Leo Tan for $25. The 25-year-old offers nice versatility, being equally adept at Left Back and as a Central Defender.
Another new addition is Rinaldo Tonelli, who was signed as part of the deal which bought midfielder Graeme Moss to the club in the mid-season transfer window. Tonelli brings pace and power to our back line.
Finally, we bought in two experienced players on loan. Hans-Jurgen Haupt (72 OVR) is a quick and skilful Left Back whilst Central Defender Pedro Moreno (71 OVR) will play his last MFL season with The Mayhem before retiring.
The Midfielders
Although Daniel Karsai (DM, 68 OVR) performed well last season, Cambier’s (DM, 69 OVR) mobility makes him a better fit for the defensive midfield role in Ice.
Graeme Moss (CM, 70 OVR) will maintain is position as the more combative Central Midfielder, but I felt an upgrade over Gerhard Zander (CM, 67 OVR) was needed to compete in Ice. In comes Frenchman Anthony Maillot (CM, 71 OVR). He’s well rounded and young enough (23) to develop well. Costing $35 he spent last season in Ice, averaging a 7.0 match rating with 5 goal contributions.
Although Zander will be the rotation player to aid his development, I also bought in another Frenchman, this time 32-year-old Renaud Marin (CM, 70 OVR) who is able to cover both midfield slots as well as cover at Right Back if needed.

The Forwards
Starting on the wings, I’ve made upgrades on both flanks. Roman Fasching (LW, 66 OVR) enjoyed an excellent season, but at 30 it was time to invest in a younger long-term option.
Costing $32, Olgierd Jagietto is a pure attacking winger who should be able to play almost like a second striker, alongside Aristizabal. Admittedly, he didn’t have a great season in Ice, with just 1 goal and 3 assists in 18 games. However, I’m confident in our tactical system and he’ll get good goalscoring opportunities.
On the right flank, Mauro Alderete had a very positive impact on the team in the second-half of last season. With 9 goals in 9 games, it was he who gave us the lead in our 2-0 playoff victory which saw us clinch promotion. However, at 29-year-old, and 68 OVR he’s not going to have the same effect in Ice.
At just 23, Buzatu (RW, 71 OVR) is more of a creator than Alderete and represents excellent value, with comparable players listed for over $70.
Elias Aristizabal (ST, 73 OVR) will remain as our main striker, but I needed someone who could step in and grab goals when needed. Joining for just $6, Englishman Allan Ellis should be a very reliable backup option. A deadly shooter, he scored 6 goals and grabbed 6 assists in 8 games in Ice last season.
Madero Mayhem FC Thoughts
I’ve spent $152 assembling a team that may only be good enough for mid-table in Ice. I could almost certainly have built a stronger side by buying older players, but that was never the plan. The average age of the starting XI is 25, which should be one of the, if not THE youngest in the division.
Developing players is what makes MFL enjoyable for me, and while it’s still financially possible, I’d rather invest in players who can improve alongside the club. If we establish ourselves comfortably in Ice while that squad develops, I’ll consider it a successful season.
The transfer window hasn’t closed yet, but we have the 7th best rated team in the division, so it’ll be tough.
Academia Del Mayhem Squad Preview & Transfer Roundup
I’m genuinely excited about this team. It’s full of good players who can develop – and I think Spark is the perfect level for them to do so.
The Goalkeepers
Suhail Basha (GK, 66 OVR) joins as our #1 ‘keeper for $10. At 6’2″ and 24-years-old, he’s played 18 games in Spark. Backing him up will be Mick Elliot (GK, 64 OVR) who spent last season on loan with the Nijmegen Cherries, averaging a 6.9 match rating.

The Defenders
My initial plan when I bought the Academy team was for Milivoj Vuksanovic (RB, 61 OVR) to be the starting Right Back. However, he failed to progress last season despite performing well in games (7.5 Avg rating) and training. So, he’ll be relegated as back up to Esam Rahman (RB, 65 OVR). The second Saudi added to the squad, Rahman cost $8 and possesses good pace, passing and physicals.
Brazilian Juliano Evangelista was actually signed in the first half of last season when I was still regularly playing with wingbacks, as such whilst he’s a 68 OVR at Left Wingback, he drops to a 63 at Left Back. Signed for $13.50, and like both Basha and Rahman, he was minted last season so has lots of scope to develop. Backing up Evangelista will be loanee Irinel Aldea (LB 62 OVR).
At Central Defender, we have Roman Plaza (CB, 64 OVR) – firmly stuck in tier jail – who can hopefully break out and explode this season, especially with much more game time. Alongside him will be new signing, 21-year-old, Jean-Marc Simon (CB, 64 OVR). Costing $26, he’s young and has all the base attributes to be a very good player, if he can get out of Tier Jail!
Our rotation option is loanee Alberto Ocana (CB, 65 OVR) who is quicker than Plaza and Simon so gives nice tactical flexibility.
The Midfielders
I’m really excited about the midfield trio.
Firstly, our new DM, Justin Elie (DM, 65 OVR). Mobile, aggressive and defensively excellent. At 5’6″ tall, he could be our Kante! Being Haitian he was minted last season. Signed for $25, the next DM aged under 23 and with his attributes was listed at $38 so he could be a bargain.
His back up will be Gustavo Zeballos (DM, 66 OVR), who spent last season out on loan in Spark and excelled with a 7.6 average rating.
Our central midfielders will be Teofilo Espindola (CM, 65 OVR) who was Playmaker of the year in our Flint promotion season, but struggled to have the same impact in Spark. Hopefully a season at starter will kick-start his progression.
Alongside him will be all-rounder Stefan Alexe (CM, 66 OVR) who notched 4 assists and a 7.2 average rating last season and is another who’ll benefit from being a regular starter. He went up +2 last season so hopefully he can continue that trend.
The rotation option will be 33-year-old loanee Dag Dalen (CM, 66 OVR) who is a very good attacking option who played the last 3 seasons in Ice.

The Forwards
Last season’s backup Left Winger, Carl Boone (LW, 65 OVR) will get his chance to be a starter after his 5 goal contributions in 9 starts. His backup will be another player I signed at the start of last season, but remained at their old team. Ferid Omanivic (LW, 62 OVR) is a 21-year-old who’s played only 2 career games. Costing $17, I’m hoping he can take every opportunity he gets to prove himself and progresses nicely.
On the Right Wing, we have Petter Haga (RW, 63 OVR). The 25-year-old Norwegian spent last season on loan in the Flint division where he scored 9 goals and grabbed 6 assists, earning himself the Aspirants Cup’s top playmaker award. Behind him will be Emile Marechal (RW, 61 OVR) who has bags of pace and dribbling ability
My main striker will be Karim Maillard (ST, 67 OVR) who disappointed out on loan last season, but I feel needs a season of being the first choice in a system which should create him plenty of chances. He’s still only 22, so the sky is the limit.
Guiding Maillard will be Abdalla Al Harbi – the 32-year-old who has done so well for us since joining when we were in Flint. Scoring 19 goals in 20 games across Flint and Spark, his electric pace rips defences apart so he’ll be a nice rotation option and probably make us stronger when he’s drafted in!

Academia Del Mayhem Squad Thoughts
With most of the squad still early in their careers (average starting XI aged 23), everyone sitting within a seven-point OVR band, and regular football in Spark, Academia should provide the ideal environment for player development. I also expect them to be competitive -we currently have the division’s fifth-highest rated starting XI, so a playoff push feels realistic.
The Pre-season Tournaments
As usual I entered the pre-season cups ran through Discord.
The Mayhem were entered into the 72 OVR Max cup – meaning our two best goal threats, Aristizabal and Oglietta (73 OVR) couldn’t play. Academia Del Mayhem played in the 68 OVR Max competition which meant they were out matched in most games.
Both teams reached the knockout stages. The Mayhem exited in the second round after conceding from the opposition’s only shot on target, while Academia beat a stronger side on penalties before also falling in the second round after another encouraging performance.
So, I’m still searching for my first piece of silverware in MFL, but I’m happy with how the system performed for both teams.
Taking Action
The lack of goal threat from Academia did worry me. In 6 cup games they scored only 3 goals.
Therefore, I had a look on the transfer market to see if there was any free agents, 24 or under who could come in and help.
24-year-old German, Jakob Lindner, is a freshly minted German winger Elite pace (80) and dribbling (81) at Spark level who should help create chances and break down defences.

And so, we head into Season 15 – my third in MFL – with not only a real point to prove, but also to giants to kill along the way.
