Birmingham, England – V Sports is delighted to confirm the final two managerial appointments within The African Project, completing the leadership structure across our seven-club football network.

Former Senegal national team manager Aliou Cissé has been appointed Head Coach of ZED FC in Egypt, while former Ghana international and current coach Otto Addo will take charge of ASEC Mimosas in Ivory Coast. These appointments complete a management team that now spans seven clubs across Europe and Africa, all united by one philosophy, one identity and one long-term vision for the development of African football. With Yaya Touré leading Aston Villa, Benni McCarthy overseeing Vitória S.C., John Obi Mikel guiding GAIS, Michael Essien at FC Annecy and Samuel Eto’o beginning the long-term rebuild of Real Unión Club, the arrival of Cissé and Addo ensures every stage of the V Sports pathway is now led by individuals who have not only reached the pinnacle of African football but have also demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout their careers.
Building the Foundations
While Aston Villa represents the destination within the V Sports family, every successful journey has to begin somewhere. The appointments of Aliou Cissé and Otto Addo are arguably among the most significant made since the launch of The African Project. Their clubs may not attract the headlines of the Premier League or European competition, but they will become the foundations upon which the entire network is built. Future Aston Villa players recruited directly from Africa could be expected to spend time developing within the African section of the V Sports pathway. That responsibility demands managers who understand not only elite football, but the realities of developing young players on the continent. Aliou Cissé and Otto Addo were chosen because they embody those qualities.
Aliou Cissé – ZED FC
Few coaches in African football command the respect earned by Aliou Cissé. As captain of Senegal during their historic run to the 2002 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals before later guiding the national team to victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Cissé has consistently demonstrated his ability to build winning environments while developing talented young footballers. His appointment to ZED FC represents a cornerstone of the V Sports vision. Located in Egypt, ZED FC will act as one of the network’s primary recruitment and development centres, bridging the gap between African football and the European game. The club will become home to many of the continent’s brightest prospects during the earliest stages of their professional careers. Cissé’s role extends far beyond winning football matches. He will oversee the transition of young players into professional environments, ensuring they develop the tactical understanding, professionalism and mentality required to eventually succeed elsewhere within the network. Every player who progresses beyond ZED FC should leave better prepared for European football than when they arrived. His experience of guiding young Senegalese internationals onto the global stage made him the outstanding candidate for one of the most influential positions within V Sports.
Otto Addo – ASEC Mimosas
If there is one club synonymous with producing elite African footballers, it is ASEC Mimosas. The Ivorian giants have long been regarded as one of the continent’s greatest talent factories, producing generations of footballers who have gone on to enjoy outstanding careers throughout Europe. V Sports believes preserving that identity is essential. Rather than changing what has already proven successful, our ambition is to strengthen it. Otto Addo’s appointment perfectly reflects that philosophy. Following successful coaching roles in Germany and his work with Ghana’s national team, Addo has established himself as one of Africa’s most respected modern coaches. His calm leadership, outstanding player management and proven ability to work with emerging talent made him the ideal choice to lead the very beginning of the V Sports player pathway. ASEC Mimosas will become the network’s first point of contact for many young footballers identified throughout West Africa. Here, players will receive elite coaching while remaining close to home during the earliest stages of their development. Only when the time is right will they begin progressing through the wider V Sports network. Patience will be every bit as important as ambition.
More Than Feeder Clubs
Within football, the phrase “feeder club” often undervalues the work carried out by smaller organisations. At V Sports, we reject that description. While ASEC Mimosas and ZED FC undoubtedly occupy the earliest stages of our development pathway, they are not simply clubs that exist to supply players elsewhere. They are institutions with proud histories, passionate supporters and ambitions of their own. Our objective is to strengthen them. To improve their infrastructure. To support their academies. To help them compete domestically and continentally while continuing to develop exceptional footballers. If either club becomes a dominant force within African football, that is not a by-product of our strategy. It is one of our goals. The success of every club strengthens the network as a whole.
One Footballing Language
Like every club within the V Sports family, both ASEC Mimosas and ZED FC will adopt the tactical identity that now defines the organisation. Every team will play with the same 4-3-3 structure. Every player will understand the same pressing triggers. Every academy graduate will learn identical positional principles. Every coach will speak the same footballing language. This shared philosophy allows players to progress naturally between clubs without beginning their football education from scratch every time they move. Development becomes continuous rather than disruptive. That continuity is one of the greatest strengths of the V Sports model.
Completing the Vision
With these appointments, the leadership team guiding The African Project is now complete.

Aston Villa (England) – Yaya Touré
The flagship club. The pinnacle of the network and the ultimate destination for players ready to compete at the highest level.
Vitória S.C. (Portugal) – Benni McCarthy

Developing players within one of Europe’s most technically demanding football cultures while establishing the club as a future Ligue 1 contender.
Real Unión Club (Spain) – Samuel Eto’o
A long-term restoration project, rebuilding one of Spain’s historic clubs while providing another valuable route into European football.

ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast) – Otto Addo

Looking Ahead
The announcement of Aliou Cissé and Otto Addo marks the completion of the V Sports football structure. The network has been established. The philosophy has been defined. The managers are in place. Now begins the most important chapter of all. Finding the next generation of African footballers capable of carrying this vision onto the pitch. Because the African Project has never simply been about owning football clubs. It is about creating opportunities. It is about building careers. And it is about proving that, with the right guidance and the right pathway, the next great African footballing story can begin anywhere—but through V Sports, it will always have somewhere to go.
