Introducing the Seven Clubs Behind the V Sports Vision
By V Sports Communications
A football philosophy is only as strong as the clubs entrusted to deliver it.
While The African Project is built upon a single vision. Identifying, developing and showcasing the finest footballing talent Africa has to offer, it is the clubs within the V Sports family that will ultimately bring that vision to life.
Each club has been selected for a reason.
Some already possess the infrastructure and ambition to compete on the European stage. Others represent long-term investments, where patience and intelligent planning will hopefully create extraordinary success stories over the coming decades.
No two clubs are the same.
Each has its own identity, culture and supporters.
Our role is not to erase those identities, but to unite them under one shared footballing philosophy.
This is the V Sports family.
Aston Villa
The Flagship
There could only ever be one club at the summit of the V Sports project.
Aston Villa is not simply our biggest club, it is the destination every young footballer within the network dreams of reaching.
Founded in 1874, Villa are one of English football’s true giants. Seven First Division titles, seven FA Cups, five League Cups and, most famously, the 1982 European Cup remain permanent reminders of a club that has always belonged among football’s elite.
Recent years have seen Villa enjoy an extraordinary resurgence. Under ambitious ownership and excellent recruitment, the club has returned to European competition and firmly re-established itself as one of the Premier League’s fastest-growing forces.
Now, the challenge changes once again.
V Sports does not simply want Aston Villa competing in Europe.
We want Aston Villa to become one of Europe’s elite clubs.
The ultimate ambition is to build a Champions League-winning side filled with players developed through our own footballing network.
Leading that challenge will be one of Africa’s greatest-ever midfielders.
Manager
Yaya Touré
A four-time African Footballer of the Year, Premier League legend and one of the defining midfielders of his generation, Yaya Touré embodies everything V Sports wants to represent.
Intelligence.
Leadership.
Winning mentality.
His task is not simply to win trophies.
It is to provide the final environment where the continent’s brightest young stars become world-class footballers.
Squad Overview
Villa already possess the strongest squad within the network.
A blend of experienced internationals, exciting young talent and players entering their peak years provides an outstanding foundation.
Among those already representing Africa are several players who perfectly reflect the diversity of modern football.
Boubacar Kamara the French international with Senegalese heritage remains one of Europe’s finest holding midfielders, bringing calmness and tactical intelligence to the heart of the team.
Amadou Onana, the Belgian international with Senegalese heritage, provides enormous physicality and athleticism in midfield while fitting perfectly into the energetic football V Sports wishes to play.
This squad already possesses quality.
Our responsibility is ensuring the next generation is even better.
Vitória S.C.
The European Gateway
If Aston Villa is the destination, Vitória is where many European journeys will begin.
Few countries have developed young footballers as successfully as Portugal.
Time and again, talented youngsters have arrived, developed and flourished before taking the next step onto football’s biggest stages.
Vitória have long been recognised as one of Portugal’s most respected clubs outside the traditional “Big Three.”
While Benfica, Porto and Sporting continue to dominate domestically, Vitória have consistently demonstrated that intelligent recruitment and youth development can close the gap.
That challenge now becomes even greater.
Our ambition is not simply to qualify for Europe.
Our ambition is to break the established order.
Manager
Benni McCarthy
South African footballing icon Benni McCarthy arrives following an impressive coaching journey that has seen him build a reputation as one of Africa’s brightest young managers.
His understanding of Portuguese football, where he enjoyed a hugely successful playing career, makes this appointment feel particularly fitting.
Vitória will become the first European home for many future V Sports players.
Squad Overview
The squad already contains an exciting mixture of youth and experience capable of challenging for European football.
Current African representation includes talented Beni Mukendi, The Angolan Defensive Midfielder, while several Portuguese-speaking African players already provide strong cultural links within the dressing room.

Vitória’s recruitment department will become one of the busiest within the V Sports network over the coming seasons.
GAIS
The Scandinavian Platform
Sweden might not be the first country people associate with African football development.
Perhaps that’s exactly why it offers such an exciting opportunity.
GAIS represents something different.
The Allsvenskan provides regular first-team football, excellent facilities and an achievable route into UEFA competition.
Rather than competing immediately against Europe’s elite, young players can develop naturally while gaining invaluable senior experience.
Long-term, we hope GAIS becomes Scandinavia’s premier destination for emerging African footballers.
Manager
John Obi Mikel
Few midfielders represented professionalism quite like John Obi Mikel.
Across an illustrious career with Chelsea and Nigeria, he became renowned for intelligence, composure and consistency.
Those same qualities will now define GAIS.
Squad Overview
GAIS possesses an exciting, hard-working squad capable of growing significantly over the coming years.
The club already has experience integrating international players into Swedish football and provides an ideal environment for young footballers requiring regular minutes before taking the next step within the network.
They already have Blessing Asumang, A Ghanaian Winger on their books, hopefully he is the first of many.

FC Annecy
The French Development Club
If one club perhaps best represents opportunity within the V Sports family, it is Annecy.
Having worked their way back into professional football after years outside the spotlight, the club now enters a new chapter filled with genuine ambition.
French football has become one of the world’s greatest producers of elite African talent.
Now Annecy intends to become part of that conversation.
Promotion to Ligue 1 remains the immediate objective.
Beyond that?
European football.
Manager
Michael Essien
Michael Essien’s reputation needs little introduction.
A Premier League icon and Ghanaian legend, Essien combines elite-level experience with an exceptional understanding of player development following his coaching work in Europe.
His calm leadership and footballing intelligence make him the ideal figure to guide one of the project’s most important clubs.
Squad Overview
Annecy possesses a young squad with considerable room for growth.
Current African representation includes Ben Hamed Toure, whose heritage reflects the multicultural nature of French football, while the club’s recruitment strategy will increasingly focus on identifying athletic, technically gifted players capable of thriving within the V Sports philosophy.

Annecy will also become one of the network’s primary destinations for strategic loan players arriving from Aston Villa and Vitória.
Real Unión Club
The Sleeping Giant
Although Real Unión will not be directly managed by V Sports Management, their importance to the project should not be underestimated.
As one of Spain’s oldest clubs, Real Unión possesses a proud history that includes four Copa del Rey triumphs during Spanish football’s formative years.
Today, the club finds itself in the fourth tier.
Our objective is simple.
Help restore one of Spain’s historic clubs to the professional game.
Young players requiring regular football in Spain will find an outstanding development environment under experienced leadership.
Manager
Samuel Eto’o
One of Africa’s greatest-ever footballers.
A UEFA Champions League winner.
An icon.
Samuel Eto’o’s appointment demonstrates our commitment to giving every club within the network elite leadership.
His experience within Spanish football makes him uniquely qualified to oversee this exciting long-term project.
ZED FC
Africa’s Recruitment Hub
No club sits closer to the heart of The African Project than ZED FC.
Based in Egypt, the club will become one of our principal scouting and recruitment centres across North and East Africa.
Young players identified through the V Sports scouting network will have the opportunity to begin their professional journeys within a competitive footballing environment before progressing throughout the wider network.
The appointment of ZED FC’s new manager will be announced in the coming weeks.
ASEC Mimosas
The Talent Factory
Few academies anywhere in the world possess a reputation quite like ASEC Mimosas.
For decades, the Ivorian giants have produced footballers who have gone on to become household names across Europe.
It is impossible to speak about African player development without acknowledging the remarkable work undertaken in Abidjan.
By welcoming ASEC into the V Sports family, we are embracing one of the continent’s greatest football institutions.
The club will remain central to our recruitment strategy across West Africa while continuing its proud tradition of developing elite young footballers.
The identity of ASEC Mimosas’ new manager will also be revealed in due course.
One Family. One Philosophy.
The seven clubs introduced today are more than individual football teams.
Together, they represent a single footballing vision.
A network built upon opportunity rather than geography.
A philosophy built upon development rather than short-term success.
Over the coming weeks, supporters will learn more about our recruitment model, our tactical identity and the infrastructure that will underpin every decision made throughout the V Sports family.
The first managerial appointments have now been confirmed.
The clubs have been introduced.
The vision has been shared.
Now begins the most important part of all.
Building the future of African football, one player at a time.
