Across four games, Chur have underlined their credentials as genuine title contenders, opening up a ten-point lead in what has become a dream – and, to most, unexpected – season. Recent upheaval elsewhere has only strengthened their position. Onur Cinel has departed FC Basel, while Pascal Nussbaumer was dismissed by BSC Young Boys in the immediate aftermath of their late defeat to Chur.

That leaves FC Lausanne-Sport as the closest challengers, sitting twelve points back but with a game in hand. Lausanne, of course, have already achieved what Chur are now chasing – their 2033 title coming immediately after promotion – a modern benchmark that still frames expectations at the top of the Swiss game and was the first of its kind since 1952, when Grasshoppers did it. Even so, they remain the most credible threat, while others, including Grasshoppers under Alisha Lehmann, have begun to falter.

Chur’s run began with a commanding 3–0 victory over Lehmann’s side, their attacking trio overwhelming the visitors and energising the Espenmoos crowd. Away at Basel, they controlled much of the game and showed resilience after conceding against the run of play in the 75th minute, with Imanol Garcia rising highest from a late corner to level the score.

Against Young Boys, they moved into a two-goal lead through Valerio Christen and Cyril Feitknecht – the latter registering his 19th goal contribution of an impressive debut season – before being pulled back by sustained pressure from wide areas. With momentum shifting, Chur responded decisively. Josua Testoni delivered a precise through ball, finished clinically by Ruben Gonzalez to secure all three points and end his recent dry spell.

They closed the period with a controlled 0–0 draw away at Grasshoppers, rotating the squad while maintaining structure and discipline.

Attention now turns to multiple fronts. In Europe, Chur travel to face UC Sampdoria in the Europa League Round of 16 first leg. Domestically, their remaining fixtures before the split appear, in relative terms, favourable: home matches against Vaduz – stranded at the bottom of the league, Servette and Lausanne-Sport, alongside trips to Lugano and Rapperswil. They also face third-tier leaders Chênois in the Rivella Cup semi-final, with the prospect of a domestic double still very much alive.

Whatever follows, Chur have placed themselves firmly in control of the title race. Under Iñaki Arriola, they are not only winning, but doing so with a growing sense of assurance and authority.
