“You don’t have to travel the world to find talent. Sometimes, the next great story is already on your doorstep.”
— Gabriel Batistuta
The City of Football
There’s nowhere on Earth quite like Buenos Aires.
It’s not just a city, it’s football personified. Every barrio, every mural, every dusty pitch hidden between buildings tells the same story: here, the game isn’t just played, it’s lived.
And no city on the planet boasts a football landscape like it.
From River Plate, Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo, Vélez, Argentinos Juniors, Barracas Central and, of course, Huracán! To proud institutions like All Boys, Atlanta, Ferro, Nueva Chicago, Defensores de Belgrano and Deportivo Riestra, this is the beating heart of Argentine football.
Even just beyond the city limits, Estudiantes and Gimnasia de La Plata stand as proof that talent flows endlessly through this region.
Within this dense, competitive ecosystem, one truth becomes clear: every street hides a story, every youth team hides a star.
And that’s where our revolution begins.
The Vision: Menottismo Meets Modern Recruitment
When I took over Huracán, I didn’t come here to chase expensive transfers or quick fixes.
I came here to build something sustainable, something that reconnects the club to its roots, the philosophy of César Luis Menotti, the man who once defined Argentine footballing identity.
Menotti believed in more than tactics.
He believed in values, creativity, intelligence and beauty.
If we’re to bring his spirit back to Parque Patricios, our youth recruitment has to reflect it.
This project isn’t about finding the “best” players.
It’s about finding the right ones.
The kind of players who:
See spaces before they open. Thrive in positional freedom. Combine technique with humility. Reflect the barrio in their character — fearless, expressive and loyal.
Scouting the Capital: Finding Gold in Our Backyard
Most clubs in Argentina could be tempted to look outward to Rosario, Córdoba or Europe.
We don’t need to.
We’re surrounded by gold.
Our plan is to create a hyper-local youth recruitment network that taps directly into Buenos Aires’ unrivalled talent pool.
The City of Football
We’ll target the U17 and U20 squads of the capital’s elite: River, Boca, San Lorenzo, Vélez, Argentinos Juniors and Independiente.
Every season, these clubs produce dozens of exceptional young players, many of who never get the chance they deserve. We’ll identify those who fit the Huracán DNA: intelligent midfielders, expressive full-backs and technical wingers capable of thriving in a Menottista system.
Tier 2: The Working-Class Core
Next, we’ll look to Barracas Central, All Boys, Ferro, Atlanta, Nueva Chicago, Riestra, and Defensores de Belgrano. Clubs that represent the grit and determination of the Buenos Aires streets.
These academies are goldmines for players with the right mentality: resilient, hungry, unpolished perhaps but ready to fight and grow.
Tier 3: The Outer Ring
Finally, we’ll cast our eyes toward La Plata.
Both Estudiantes and Gimnasia have youth setups that produce technically excellent, tactically intelligent players.
Their proximity to the capital makes them part of our scouting map.
The Scouting Network
To bring this vision to life, we’ll establish a team of specialist scouts across the city, each with focused regional responsibilities and clearly defined player profiles.
Focus on technique, intelligence, and decision-making. Ignore superficial attributes like pace or strength. Target players under 19 who are underutilised, undervalued or tactically miscast at their current clubs.
We’ll blend traditional scouting with data analysis, tracking metrics such as:
Passes per defensive action (PPDA) — to find press-resistant playmakers
Expected Threat (xT) — to identify creators, not just assisters
Off-ball Intelligence — players who move in harmony with the ball, not against it
But above all, we’ll trust the eye test.
Because true Menottismo isn’t just about numbers, it’s about recognising the poetry in how a player interprets space.
The Huracán Way
At Huracán, we’re not just building a team, we’re building a legacy.
We want to become the club where Buenos Aires’ overlooked and underappreciated youth find their home.
Where expressive footballers are encouraged to play with joy and conviction.
We won’t chase trends or imported philosophies.
We’ll double down on what makes Argentine football timeless: creativity, bravery, intelligence and passion.
Our city is our academy.
Our philosophy is our advantage.
And our mission is simple:
To make Huracán the heartbeat of Buenos Aires football once again.
I found this image that highlights just how many clubs will be in our scouting network.
